SAFe Agile in the Intelligence Community
The Intelligence Community was adversely affected by the sequestration driven budget cuts of recent years, Nevertheless, in the face of increasingly hostile events throughout the world, the community mission requirements have increased and continue to change rapidly.
Facing the future of doing more for less the community looked to become more efficient and cost effective on software development projects. In order to accomplish this effort much of the community has adopted the SAFe Agile engineering methodology for enterprise software development.
In 2016, the Intelligence Community will need to meet the demand for speed, innovation, cost containment and constantly changing mission requirements. The pressure put on organizations to do this illustrates the need for scalability of lean Agile development efforts across agency programs and portfolios.
Emerging models, such as Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe Agile), have been shown to return 30 to 50 percent improvements in productivity and quality, as well as a 200 to 300 percent improvement in time to market versus traditional waterfall delivery methods.
Application of SAFe methodology to the needs of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA)
NGA, like all three letter agencies, is a complex organization with multiple portfolios and, in a continuous effort to meet the needs of a diverse and changing customer base, requires a rapid development methodology for software systems development.
NGA has embarked on a continuous effort to meet the needs of a diverse and changing customer base by adopting the SAFe Agile rapid development methodology for software systems development
The SAFe Agile Framework is just that however- it is a framework and concept that must be adapted to the practical needs and operational requirements of the agency. NGA adopted the SAFe Agile methodology and gradually replaced the existing waterfall development methodology by offering an agency wide training and certification effort for SAFe implementation. The training adapts the basic methodology to the specific operating requirements of the agency.
The previous waterfall approach was cumbersome, slow and non responsive to changing mission requirements and is now being replaced.
NGA Jobs SAFe Agile Certification
